Originally established in 1924 as Electrolux, we began our journey into Healthy Home and Business Products with the first tank vacuum model, introduced by Gustaf Sahlin. This tank (also known as a canister) design became an overnight sensation and remains a standard of excellence for floor care products.
The popular Electrolux vacuum cleaner, Model XXX, was created in 1937 and after selling nearly 14 million units, was retired in 1954 and later recognized by the Smithsonian Institute as a top 100 U.S. product. In 2000, we transitioned from our floor care roots with Electrolux to offer a full line of innovative Healthy Home and Business Products (including air and water purification systems) as Aerus.

Electrolux USA established, and has operated as a Smithsonian-honored company since then
Early 1990s
NASA-funded Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics (WCSAR) begins solving for problem of built-up ethylene gas around plants grown in the closed environment of spacecraft, which caused premature plant decay and spoilage. PCO technology is discovered.
1995
WCSAR team created a device that was successfully flown and operated on Space Shuttle Columbia
1998
Electrolux USA is purchased by a group led by Joe Urso
2000
Electrolux USA is re-branded as Aerus, a healthy living company
2001
Aerus introduces air purification products
2009
Aerus invests in early generation of ActivePure®, a NASA Space Foundation Certified Space Technology
2016
Aerus greatly advances efficacy of ActivePure® and is awarded US and global patent protections
2017
Aerus' ActivePure® Technology is inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame, one of only 75 technologies to receive such an honor in 30 years

The Aerus Medical Guardian with ActivePure® Technology received Class II Medical Device U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance
